The Third Principle for Teaching Vocabulary to English Learners
The third principle for teaching vocabulary to English learners is integrate intentional opportunities for language interaction around new vocabulary during content learning. An example of this could look like: During a science lesson on the seasons, the class participates in an activity and the teacher shows two visuals that depict the four seasons. And then the teacher actually expands on what the class says by providing more information and introducing vocabulary in that moment. So again, the content is the focus and the vocabulary is supportive of understanding the content.
