The Moralistic Fallacy in the Relationship Between Art and Morality
One reason we might think that someone not laughing at a dark joke is that there's an aesthetic defect in them. Another one might be to say that the joke has suffered because of its moral defect. And so if I'm right about that situation it might be that certain jokes require you to do something immoral to appreciate them aesthetically and that translates into an aesthetic defect. But those sorts of claims are different from the claim of whether the palace itself is beautiful, says Andrew Keen.
