The Poeticon Astronomicon

The Poeticon Astronomicon, also known as the hygienist star atlas, is a very interesting document. The text describes 47 of 48 tolemaic constellations, primarily focused on the Greek and Roman mythology surrounding them. There is some discussion of the relative positions of the stars, but the star positions in the illustrations are wildly inaccurate. Some people believe that some of the star maps depicted in the illustrations were accurate only if viewed from a certain point on Earth at a certain time. These believers aren't concerned with who came up with the constellation placement initially, whether it was Gaius Julius Hygienist during the first century BC or Ptolemies
