The Evolution of the Story
Joseph Smith is telling a story about the priesthood restoration that doesn't line up with what he wrote in the Doctrine and Covenants. Even here we're seeing just all sorts of inconsistencies with how Joseph is framing this experience. It's almost like in mid to late 1830s their, their, their authority is being challenged. So they're making up all these stories about specific angelic visits that granted them the authority. But maybe by 1848, well, not only is Joseph dead. And at that point, it's less important for Oliver to be making such specific claims of authority. Well, then I think Oliver at this point is coming back to the church.
