For centuries, there had been a small scale opium cultivation. But especially because of conflict and the ramping up of the conflict throughout the 19 fifties and the 19 sixties, i opium became the most valuable commodity in the uplands. At one point, the shanstet was the number one exporter of heroine to the rest of the world. And it was heroine that was being grown in both the north of tyland and in shan state. Up to 20 % of us. Troops became addicted to heroine.
