Alexis: What actually is base editing? Christopher: Base editors are molecular machines that do chemistry on the genome in a programmable and precise manner to get, you know, a really desired outcome. Alexis: You sort of like chop the DNA in half like scissors and that kind of flags the cell. Like, we need to repair this region right here.Christopher: If it's not being used in the lab, it's probably not working as well as it should or could be. Maybe it's too complicated or other issues with it. But yeah, just like Nicole said, we use Cas9 to go to a particular location in the genome and then we have this enzyme that does chemistry
