South Africa rejected the claim saying Israel's application for observer status to the African Union has not been decided upon. Clay Sen Manela: It's an intimidation tactic, right? If you send a representative, you're going to have a different conversation than if they're having a conversation in closed doors among people of good faith. Look, the occupation probably thought, hey, we're going to go. They're not going to say anything because what are they going to do? Kick out a diplomat. That'll look bad. And then everyone can look and it looked great.
