Cell Signaling Is for Various Functions and Functions of Cells
In an organism that has many different cells and multiple different tissue types, there needs to be some way of coordinating their activities. And that's what cell signaling is for. At a fundamental level, as cells activities are regulated internally through the existence of various signaling molecules and proteins within the cytoplasm. So throughout here, I'm going to be talking mostly about mammals and humans specifically, but similar mechanisms exist in other types of animals as well.
