When the war broke out in 1948, hundreds of thousands of Jews in Arab countries also either feared for their life or were forced out. They came to Israel and they were welcomed with open arms. It took a while for them to become integrated or their children to be integrated into what was a much more European power structure. The majority of Israeli Jews today are not of European extraction. Had the Palestinians received the same treatment at the hands of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, the Mideast would look radically different today.
