The prevalence of reactive attachment disorder or disinhibited social engagement disorder according to the DSM-5TR is less than 10% even in neglected children. There's a significant positive association between attachment-related issues and non-suicidal self-injury, borderline personality disorder, depression, addiction, and anxiety. Treatment for attachment issues usually requires family and or couples therapy in addition to individual treatment for the identified patient.
