The boys, i guess, approached the sigt and could see military presents, but no aliens. They go back three days later, ok. And now the craft has been kind of hidden in vegetation. There's been some attempt at covering it up. So yet the object had been camouflaged, essentially. The boys remembered that the jeeps were playing country, western music. This was a laugh line for the audience, that the army's trying to call to weather balloom. Or it's sort of a back dated memory of them mentioning weather bloon.
