As she continued to have problems with her childhood head injury, she underwent brain surgery and did not receive anaesthesia during the procedure. She had seen soldiers in the civil war biting on bullets while their limbs were amputated. And so despite the fact she was in her late seventies, she also literally bit the bullet during the procedure,. And it helped. So harriet tubman tough as nails right to the end.
