The Deal Was Green Light, Is That Right?
V verbs can end up having two past tense forms for a variety of reasons. For example, lane green writes johnson has at least two past tense and two past participle forms. Some speakers have in mind two different ideas of where the word comes from. Gaslight means to manipulate someone by psychological means into doubting their own reality. It comes from the name of a play called gas light, which spownds to movies. The trick is that according to an unwritten rule, when you coin a brand new verb, such as one formed from a noun, it is always regular.
