Quanta Mechanics and the Universe

Quanta mechanics just doesn't seem to make sense. What if there is an intuitive alternative to the main stream quanty mechanics? If there were, why on earth wouldn't it be embraced? We are all drawn to basic questions about the nature of the universe. How does it work? Why is it this way and not some other way?How did it all begin, and how will it all end? Physics is supposed to be a way to get answers to those questions.
