In April, a New York Times investigation revealed that when the Israeli spyware company NSO started looking for clients to buy its Pegasus spyware, it started in Mexico. That initial sale means that Mexico has more experience with this new surveillance technology than any other nation on Earth. We did a deep dive into Mexico's use of spyware before the New York Times article was published. And we spoke with digital rights groups who had found new troubling evidence that the Mexican army was using spyware in a much broader way than previously understood.
