There's never just one reason as to why you might be more inclined to respond with aggression. Having had an abusive parent, there does tend to be this kind of modeling of that behavior even though as a child you never wanted to be like that person. There are gender differences, and that has been relatively well documented in the rejection sensitivity work. males are more potentially more inclined to move towards the jealous, controlling anger responses; females can move towards the withdrawing, submissive response.
