Ret conning is a fancy way of describing when new information is added to an existing narrative that changes our perception of what was previously established. The longer a series goes on for, and the higher the stakes, the more frequent the ret cons as comic story telling makes its way to other media. While red conning can be applied to any type of narrative, it's much easier to see in film and t v. continuity matters. If you frequently make jarring and unpredictable changes to your story, your premise or your actors, you'll lose your audience.
