The Legend of John Basslin
John Basslin was a machine-gun squad leader in the first battalion, the seventh Marine Regiment. He served with Lewis Chestie Puller at that time and is thought to have been one of the most famous Marines ever. The regiment did not exist when he joined; it was part of the first Marine division. When you hear 'Marines' these days, they're usually talking about different units.
