Trying me became an even bigger hit than Please, Please, Please had. But once again Brown lost his group and this time just before a big residency at the Apollo. The new lineup of famous flames went down well enough that they were soon promoted to co-headline status - much to Little Willy John's annoyance. That was the first time James Brown ever played at the Apollo, a venue which in later years would become synonymous with him. And for Brown himself, probably the most important thing about that residency on the Chitlin circuit came at the end of the run.
