Think of hellenistic schools as rival co workers, you can also think of them as rival companies that are all competing for market share. Just like if macdonald started charging ten bucks for a hamburger, all their customers would go to burgerking instead. The sceptics provided this constant competition in hellenistic phil sophy, constantly nipping at the heels of the stoics,. questioning everything they said, keeping them honest. Heaven forbid the stoics said anything that wasn't entirely substantive or based on sound logic, because the sceptics would call em on it.
