The Silence After the Maler
The end of the piece alive can be an earth shattering experience, or it can be marred by noise. When i conducted this piece a couple of years ago in norshipine, the final note faded away and slowly i lowered my arms down. This usually signals to the audience that it is time to clap, but nothing happened. And together, we all meditated for a moment. You don't know how long two minutes of silence is in our world until you experience it. It was a silence that felt both endless and like it went by in a flash.
