The Ships of Tarshish Are Designed for the High Seas
Sailors of tarshish were known for being like legit sea baring beastly ships. They knew this storm was something special and outside of their control, and they were looking to the only place that they knew to look for help. So big enough stormed almost break the ship apart. Big enough storm to make them cry out to their gods and be afraid. And that, i would also say, it's a big enough storm that they go and find their paying passenger and wake him up from sleeping. It's like they have billy graham on board and they're going to go use him.
