The National Toxicology Program

The National Toxicology Program is a program that was established in 1978 by Joseph Colofano, who was the Secretary of Health Education and Welfare at the time. Its mission is to actually test chemicals and other substances for effects. Over time, I would say the discipline has gotten much more sophisticated. It's using many, many different techniques of molecular biology and biochemistry.
