The Disadvantages of Gas Lamps
I think now you could say they are, they would be environmentally unacceptable. They don't light things up as much. So if your priority is to have the outdoors very bright so that people can't hide in corners, I guess it's a disadvantage. The Apple store in Covent Garden, as part of the refit there, they seem to have put real gas, real gas burning gas. He has a general kind of thing against the signs of modernity and technology. Reminds me a lot of ruskin complaining about trains. How terrible trains are. And also it's a refrain you could have heard from anyone from any time from like Georgian England onward.
