The Story of Mary and Philip

Mary had three brothers, robert thomas and her older brother sir philip sidney. Philip was well known and well liked in his time but he made the mistake of criticizing queen elizabeth the first for negotiating the possibility of a marriage to a french suitor that would have meant she was marrying a catholic. For being critical of the queen, he was soon banished from court. Mary was married not that long thereafter, less than two years later, at the age of 15, to henry herbert, second earl of pembroke who was in his thirties.
