We live in a Babylonian culture of “flexible” truth, because the enemy has had the same play since Genesis 3: convincing Adam and Eve to doubt God’s authority and reject His truth. In Daniel 1, we see Daniel and his companions faced with the same dilemma: would they reject what was right to save their lives? But like Daniel, we can respond to our own moral dilemmas by standing on the foundation of God’s truth to defy the cultural norms, deny ourselves sinful pleasures, and decry the sinful wickedness in our world — and find blessing in obedience.
