Lupe starred as carmelita, a night club singer who was brought to new york by an american business man named denis. Carmelita become involved in a love triangle with denis and his uber wasp fiancee, elizabeth. She would get a new lease on stardam in 19 39, the year of the divorce, with an unexpected hit called the girl from mexico. The studio began churning out sequels. Lupe would star in a total of seven films as Carmelita; all but the first included the phrase mexican spitfire in the title.
