Bioluminescence Is Like Magic
Bioluminescence looks almost like magic, but it's actually chemistry. In nature, creatures use chemical reactions inside their bodies to make light. Fireflies have special organs on their butts loaded with the luciferin chemical and its matching enzymes. By controlling how much oxygen goes to the system, they can decide when to light up.
