The Proverbs of John Heywood
john heywood collected hundreds of proverbs into a long, extended poem. The work was published in the year 15 forty six under the very long title,. A dialogue containing the number and effect of all the proverbs in the english tongue. Four editions of the book were published in the 15 years that followed its initial publication. It may have contributed to the spread use of some of these sayings over the following centuries.
