The Wizard's First Fire
A jet of flame, white hot and blushing red at the edges, lanced through the portal. It set the wizard's robes on fire and not just a bit of his beard. His magic went dark like turning out a light bulb with a hammer. He started to sit up and then was crushed back into the mud by an enormous, scaly claw. As long as Sam could remember, he'd always wanted to be a firefighter like his old man. The fear was a sudden wait in his belly like he'd eaten a barbell.
