The Hook That He Has in His Other Hand Is Mindfulness
To be able to meditate, you need mindfulness. This means that your attention is not distracted from what you're concentrating on. Mindfulness is like this rope between where consciousness comes from and what it is observing. It's a rope that connects us. I am aware of observing my breath and that awareness of what one is doing is mindfulness. We can develop that all day long in all of our activities.
