The Effects of Operation Everest on Body Mass

Choloric intake decreased 43 percent from 3,136 to 1,789 kilocalories per day. The subjects lost 7.4 plus or minus the standard deviation of 2.2 kilograms over 40 days in a hyperbarych chamber. Computerized tomographic scans indicated that most of the weight loss was derived from fat-free weight. There have been shorter and less extreme hyperbaric hypoxia studies. Green leaf at ALT 1987 found the participants lost on average about 1% of their body weight after 8 days at a simulated altitude of 2,287 meters.
