The Meaning of God's Names
Ibn Adabi's handling of this issue is sophisticated. He distinguishes carefully between three levels. Names have a rather ambiguous metaphysical status. We usually only see an outward surface appearance of God's self-manifestation. But even here, we have not arrived at full-blown reality or being. This would be God himself, which is why one of his names is Ahak, the truth.
