How the Tory Party Got to a Position Where They Show No Signs of Learning

Johnson is a self declared Thatcherite and willing to press populist buttons about the boats. Yet this figure is way too left wing for Reese Mogg, Patel and those that gathered to pay worship to him at conference. How has this party got to a position where there are echoes again with the tensions and divisions in the build up to 97? Part of the answer is that they didn't have a grown up debate as to why they lost so heavily in 1997. If they had, they would be in a wholly different position now.
