The Origins of the Book of Mormon

Joseph Smith was troubled by the amount of churches that were making different claims. An angel named Moroni comes down to Joseph Smith and basically instructs him on what to do. The Book of Mormon is kind of like just imagine prophets and all that whole storyline happened in the Americas with the Native Americans. That's who Moroni was a Native American appearing before Joseph Smith.
