The Task of Science Is to Find Satisfactory Explanations
The aim of science is to explain, and that the most satisfactory explanation will be the one that is most severely testable. But within methodology, we do not have to presuppose metephysical realism, nor can we, i think, derive much help from it, except of an intuitive kind. For a satisfactory explanation is one which is not ad hok. And this idea, the idea of independent evidence, can hardly be understood without the idea of discovery," he says.
