Was the Punjab One of the Main Recruiting Ground for the Indian Army During the First World War?

In the first world war, punjab sent something like half a million men as soldiers and as followers. About a third of the indian armies over all man power in the first World War comes from punjab. So it's a huge contribution in terms of man power, logistics, money,. An essential to the british war effort and to the success of that war effort. And i think people know that now and are recognizing that more. What we haven't been able to do until now is really to understand the individual stories of the men who were involved.
