Haber was torn. Part of him hoped that the madness would blow over, he says. That Hitler's government would not cease sense. Didn't the Nazis realize that forcing out Jewish research would gut German scientific programs? Haber: How could they be told to leave without doing irreparable damage? It was beyond belief.
