Polly Dalton is professor of cognitive psychology at Royal Holloway University of London. She says attentional capture is a process by which your attention can be drawn away from the task that you're focusing on and towards something else. It's still an area that we're looking at a lot but it does seem that there are certain types of information and more likely to draw attention than others.
