High starch, high glucose, soft drinks are bad for your mitochondria. Hibernating animals do get a little bit of tau protein while they're hibernating but it recovers. Vitamin C actually does counter it. It blocks that oxidative stress to some extent. Some people are going to be more susceptible than others.
