The Importance of Ions in Physics
The electron itself is charged and how you would measure if it's a little bit oblong as you would put it in an electric field. You might be able to tell it has a shape other than a perfect sphere. The big innovation that my boss Eric Cornell came up with 14 years ago was to use ions, which means that they're charged atoms are charged molecules. And you can't just stick those in an electric fields because their charge will get pushed by the electric field.
