A woman in my practice who was very sophisticated married into a family from a latin american country. They were nice enough in the beginning, but as the years wore on, her in laws started a kind of lobbying against her. The couple already had two children, there was actually a sort of pressure from the in laws for him to leave her. And she was, of course, very upset about this. Her husband was too. He understood that he would need to end the relationship with his parents because he felt like he was being given a choice between choosing his parents or choosing her. So they came up with a really good plan going forward, which was to limit visits with the family
