Introduction

Kaya's death in police custody sparked three days of rioting in Mauritius. Kaya was performing a t'ralli to legalize marijuana and he was later arrested for smoking the drug there. He was taken to a prison which locals called Alcatraz and died four days later. Varini Topiz is Kaya's widow: "It was as if the world stopped on that day"
