A Bit Is Fundamentally the Answer to a Yes or No Question
Karl: Information theory is about bets and systems that exchange bits. So in your case, karl, you have an oscillatory system that passes a particular boundary. And the answer is yes or no, or am i passing the boundary right now? Well, that's one bit. But it's an extremely complicated question. It may be that we can develop a theory that concentrates just on the bit flow across the boundary. That counts as evidence in one direction, and perturbative action in the other direction. I think the two pictures fit together rather nicely,. because one can imagine the generative model operating at many different scales.
