The History of Commentaries on Aristotle
At around the same time as Damascus there's something else that's really fascinating about the history of commentaries on Aristotle. Suddenly you start to get commentators who are Christians not only Philoponus but also the less known Elias and David for example. So if we stay with late antiquity or the very end of late antiquity for a moment to what extent is everything you're describing still the case with these Christian commentators? Does it make a difference when the commentators start to be Christians rather than pagans?
