Roosevelt's Opposition to Lynching

Roosevelt was the originator and master of the bully pulpit. He would chastise whites for taking this, I think he called it an extra legal step when they did engage in that behavior. Did he feel morally bad for black people that were lynched? He probably did. But based on what he was saying publicly, there's a part of him that may have believed at some level that that person deserved it.
