How to Build a Successful Startup
Optics raised a secondary round from Excel in 2010, about a $60 million round. We had $55 million in the bank when we raised that money. So why bother? Well, we needed to get them on board as a partner at that stage. That was a very strategic choice. Our whole funding process was quite unusual because we had a bunch of VCs that had been chasing for many years. It's not a typical process and I tell all the Australian startups, don't try and copy it.
