The ACO Guidelines Aren't Mandatory and Do Not Create Legal Rights or Obligations
A recent review of patient electronic health records did not find an associated rise in the number of cancer cases as people postpone screenings due to COVID-19. Researchers at Epic Research analyzed nearly 374,000 cancer diagnoses entered in patient's charts between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2022. The researchers specifically looked at diagnoses for breast, colorectal, and cervical cancers. According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 9.4 million screening tests that would have normally occurred in the United States in 2020 did not happen.
