Shakespeare wants to present Duncan as a saintly king whose murder is disrupted the whole natural framework. Macbeth has gotten rid of Duncan, but with this murder he has made an enemy of Banquo who seems to have guessed the truth about Duncan's death. When Macbeth tries to eliminate one obstacle, he creates another. The thing that he thinks will make him safe just opens up another line of weakness.
