I was able to roll in sort of the financial crisis, playing a role on a team that now everyone knows about because it's been in a major book. I worked with Steve Eismann starting in 1996 at Oppenheimer. So as a salesman at the time, I was able to see these companies being built from the ground up. And so I wouldn't sell the deals, which hurt me in terms of my own pocket and in my stature at the firm. It really came down to we could no longer short stocks like New Century or credit lenders if you were paying 40% to 50%.
